I used to be a happy, well cared for, "old fashioned" mamma until last June when my college educated, successful husband lost his job. We were never rich, and we may have even been slightly late on a bill or two, but we never had to worry about putting food on the table or being homeless.
When my husband lost his job over a year ago he told me that he would be back to work in two weeks. Fourteen months later he is STILL without a job. We are fortunate because we both have wonderful and financially stable parents who always help us out by buying the kids clothes, paying for an unexpected bill, or giving us a check because they "win a little money in Atlantic City and wanted to share the wealth." All of these things have kept us afloat over the last year but our faith, marriage, and overall way if life gave been tested and drastically changed. We have gone through hell and back and our fight is not over yet as neither of us have been able to find a "good" job since this whole nightmare began. I know that there are thousands of families out there who are going through the same thing and that's why this self described "old fashioned" mamma has renamed herself as "modern day mamma" and have started this blog to reach out to others in my situation.
Despite our hardships, my marriage is strong and intact, my credit score (not my husbands) is still very high, and my kids are no worse for the wear! I would like to share with you the tricks, resources, and ideas that I have implemented to survive our own economic crisis and I hope that you will share with me some of your own experiences when trying to keep your family strong in these difficult economic times.
I really hope that this blog will take off and that it will benefit many people. Please respond if you are a "modern day mamma" surviving in these most difficult of times!
